Prof. Dr. Ghislain Houben began his wine story in the hamlet of Hoenshoven, in Borgloon. Winemaking is Ghislain’s passion. In 2002, he planted his first vines on land that has been in the family since 1907. His son Jerom and his godson Simon, who grew up among the wine barrels, have also been bitten by the winemaking bug. Together, they cultivate 6.5 hectares of vineyards, growing no fewer than 25 different grape varieties. Ghislain is an endless source of inspiration. As his title suggests, studying and creating are his passions, resulting in a remarkably diverse range of wines. At Hoenshof, there is a strong focus on experimentation and highly varied blends. The estate mainly works with innovative grape varieties adapted to our cool climate. Hoenshof’s main goal is to put Belgian wines more firmly on the map.
