Shivering Mountain Distillery produces 3 gins – a traditional London Dry Gin made from local berries found on the mountain slopes and in the valley beneath, a Pink Grapefruit Dry Gin – unlike most Pinks which are very sweet and the most recent launch is another London Dry Gin – the Early Harvest Gin, which uses the flowers on the mountain rather than being ‘berry heavy’ like the former.
The botanicals used by all there gins include bilberries and Sloe berries. The bilberry is a wild form of blueberries and the Sloe berry grows in the hedgerows in the valleys and is used by many people to make sloe gin, a sweetened liquor.
The gins are bottles in a famous design that puts a model of the Shivering Mountain in the bottle even including the large piece of mountain that is sliding down towards the village of Castleton. The bottle is beautifully designed – winning the top UK glass packaging award in 2021 and the base of the bottle has the co-ordinates of the mountains highest point.
