Alkoomi is situated in the most isolated wine-growing region in Western Australia, just outside the tiny town of Frankland River and is one of Western Australia largest family owned and operated wine producers currently run by Sandy and Rod Hallett, who, together with their children, Laura, Emily and Molly represent the third and fourth generation. Sandys parents Merv and Judy Lange commenced vineyard planting in 1971, after the Frankland River region was identified for its climate, deep, well-drained gravelly loam soils that are similar to those of Bordeaux in France and perfect for the production of grapes with intense varietal character. Alkoomi today has 106 hectares of estate vineyard and together with winemaker Andrew Cherry are committed to our ethos of favouring quality over quantity, and to manage the property in an environmentally sustainable manner, with the aim of producing fruit which displays a sense of place and purity.
