Toutigeac is an very old locality, with vestiges which date back from the 12th century. At that time, the monks of St Gerard who came from the neighbouring abbey, la Sauve Majeure, founded a small community, planted vines and built a church. The Cross with its primitive sculpture of Christ dates back from that time.
A historical site, Chateau Toutigeac is located on a hill at the very heart of the Entre Deux Mers in its most hilly and picturesque part.It looks over a magnificent panorama of vineyards, forests and fields with villages, Romanesque churches, manors and delightful houses. Some people describe it as a little Tuscany.
The Mazeau family, generation after generation, has planned a high quality vineyard.
The Estate was purchased by Charles Mallet in 1928, at that time a wine merchant in Paris and Castillon la Bataille. His great, great grand-daughter, Oriane Mazeau, continues the tradition as the fifth generation of the family to make wines at Chateau Toutigeac.
