Riverside Wines was established by Ian and Rachel Cadwallader in 1989 and is located in the Dartmoor Valley in the heart of Hawke''s Bay. The property is made up of river flats, terraces and rolling hills. A mixture of soil types range from heavy and light river gravels on the flats, to deep red metal soils on the terraces, and shingle covered clay based areas on the upper terraces. The vineyards were planted giving careful consideration to topographical and geological assessments and analysis of the various areas. This ensured that the best growing sites were able to be selected for individual grape varieties. Riverside has several blocks of Sauvignon Blanc, with a lesser number containing Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinotage, Semillon and Cabernet Sauvignon providing us with appropriate flexibility in the crafting of our wines. Chemical applications are kept to a minimum, using primarily organic compounds.
