The Couvent des Jacobins is a Grand Cru Classé from Saint Emilion, France, with a limited production of approximately 40,000 to 50,000 bottles of red wine over 11 hectares. The vineyard was originally owned by monks from the Jacobins brotherhood back in the 1400s and has now been in the Joineau-Borde family since 1902. The Couvent is located at the heart of Saint Emilion city center and possesses exceptional underground cellars from the 12th and 18th century beneath the building. Wines from the Couvent des Jacobins are characterized by a powerful structure and aromas of black fruit and flowers, with parcimonious use of wooden barrels and can be left to age between 5 and 10 years. They are mainly sold throughout Europe and in the United States and target a clientele of connoisseurs interested as much in a deep, structured wine reflective of its terroir as in the perpetuation of a single family thriving to maintain strong traditional wine making values.
