Bodegas Carrau traces it origins in the wine industry over nine generations, with roots in the Catalunia region of Spain since 1752. In Uruguay, since 1930 the Carrau family has always been at the forefront of innovation in winemaking; they were the first to export their wines, and in 1973 introduced the idea of using the typical grape of the country, Tannat to make top reserve style red wines. The last contribution of Carrau was the application of modern techniques to their winemaking with one of the most innovative wineries built in 1997 inside a hill with the concept of minimal manipulation. The Carrau family vineyards are located in the higher sustainability environment of the world according to the last studies of Yale University in 2005. They are the leading Uruguayan exporters of quality wines to more than 20 countries and with high recognitions in Canada, Mexico, Brazil,UK, Germany, Sweden,Norway,Poland, and United States.
