Athenian Brewery S.A. was founded in 1963. In 1965 the first brewery is established in Athens producing AMSTEL. In 1974 the production process is expanding to Thessaloniki. In 1981 the company begins the production of the HEINEKEN brand and in 1985 a new brewery is established in Patras. In 1993 the company enters the bottled water business producing the natural mineral water IOLI. In 1999, the company starts the production of the alsatian brand FISCHER and in 2000 it re-launches ALFA, the traditional Hellenic lager beer. In 2001 Athenian Brewery becomes a Grand Sponsor of the Olympic Games to be held in Athens in 2004. Athenian Brewery is the operating company of HEINEKEN INTERNATIONAL N.V.
