All Saints Estate is one Australia’s original wineries, established in 1864, by two enterprising Scots, George Sutherland Smith and John Banks. The castle was built in 1880 around the original pise (mud) hut. The Oregon beams in The Terrace Restaurant and Cellar Door area were brought by sailing ship from the United States and then transported from the port of Melbourne by bullock teams- a fair indication of the determination and dedication of the pair in building what was to become, by the turn of the century, the largest wine storage facility in the southern hemisphere.All Saints Estate and St Leonards Vineyard are wholly owned by Peter Brown (one of the Brown Brothers of Milawa). Peter is still a partner and on the Board of Directors at Brown Brothers but spends most of his time at the Rutherglen properties.
