A world search, which included France, USA and Australia for the ideal area with perfect conditions for viticulture brought Kai Schubert, graduate of the German Viticulture/Oenology University in Geisenheim to the Wairarapa. Now Schubert Wines has vineyards in Martinborough and East Taratahi (Wairarapa) which are closely planted and the unique climate produces low yields and wines with intense and complex character. Small quantities of grapes grown on Gimblett Road, Hawkes Bay are also vinified.
