Micil Distillery is a small distillery just outside Galway city, Ireland. The first distillery in County Galway in over 100 years, Micil Distillery traces its roots back to 1848, when the founder's great-great great grandfather, Micil Mac Chearra, began producing poitin for friends and family from his small stillhouse in Connemara.
Six generations and 170 years later, the family continue to make spirits the way they have always made them by hand and using unique family recipes.
We have a range of poitin products, an award winning gin made using local Connemara botanicals, and a traditional whiskey in the pipeline. We do tours and tastings at our distillery visitor centre here in Galway.
At present we are focused on our home market, but are looking to expand to other markets abroad. The reception from foreign visitors to our distillery has been incredible, as they can appreciate the heritage and authenticity behind our brand in a smoke and mirrors market where fake brands abound.
