Bassetti Vineyards is located about 3 miles from the Pacific Ocean, along highway 46 near Cambria, CA. In a small coastal valley running parallel to the ocean, we have a parcel that has been in the Bassetti family for almost 100 years. In the summer of 1998 we planted the first seven acres of our vineyard. With the guidance of John Alban, of Alban Vineyards, we ripped the soil, terraced and planted seven acres of syrah grapes. Since this location is close to the ocean, it is cool and mild in the summer months. We have many days with temperatures in the high 80 and 90 degree range with just a handful of 100 degree days. In between these warmer days we have lower temperatures ranging in the 70s to cool things off. At night we always cool down. With this location, our fruit will ripen later than the inland fruit, and the cool, moist climate will produce a more intense, darker color. In 2000 we planted six more acres of Syrah, and in 2004 another two acres were added.
