the winery dates back to the 17th century, when the Salis family moved to the Valtellina area, north of Milan and near the Alps. They soon started to produce mainly red wines, based on Nebbiolo (which is called Chiavennasca in this area), full-bodied and very elegant, some of these being awarded several times Tre Bicchieri or 5 Grappoli, such as the Canua Sforzato. Besides the reds, a few very interesting white wines are made out of Nebbiolo and some local grapes, vinyfied as white.
