IBN: What is Manuia Tahiti?

DB: Ava Tea Distillation is a company based in Tahiti, French Polynesia, that makes 100% natural liquors and distilled spirits with the fruits from Tahiti and all Polynesian islands. We have 2 ranges, one is the fruit liquors made out of neutral alcohol and natural fruits and the other one is the daiquiris made out of rum, cane neutral spirits and natural fruits. As a unique signature our liquors bottles are decorated with a thin layer of white sand taken either from the Bora Bora or from the Tuamotu beaches. We have been in business for 25 years and the philosophy is to use all natural resources from French Polynesia and turn them into great drinks!

IBN: What is your added value?

DB: Competition markets fruits flavoured spirits, meaning they add flavourings to traditional and existing spirits such as for instance rums, tequilas, cognac, or vodkas to diversify and increase their range. We on the other hand use natural fruits to make our liquors and distilled spirits, meaning that what we add to either the neutral alcohol base for liquors or rum base for the daiquiris, natural fruits alcoholic maceration which implies by the way that our product range can only correspond to the fruits available in French Polynesia.

Products range from Alc 10% by vol ( 20 proof ) to Alc.55% by Vol (110 proof)

IBN: What is your market?

DB: We cover all French Polynesia, which is a large territory as it geographically spreads over a surface area equivalent to Europe. We sell in Japan. And we are now about to launch our products into the US market. So far we have signed a few importation and distribution agreements and all our products and labelling info do comply with the American Department of the Treasury Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & firearms.

IBN: What are some of the biggest deals that you have done in the past 12 months?

DB: Carrefour Japan is now distributing our product range

IBN: What trade shows do you usually attend / exhibit at?

DB: In my opinion, to attend a trade show without a distributor in the territory capable to follow up on the enquiries is not a good strategy, frustrating and waste of money. However, when we have the distribution channel established, we are more than happy to attend any major trade show to support our distributors.

IBN: What impact does the Internet have on your business?

DB: The IBN World Directory and marketing assistance have been key for us to expand internationally. The best service a beverage B2B can provide is an accurate directory like IBN so companies can get in touch and expand their business via distributors.

We also have a web site www.avateatahiti.com and get regular internet orders from it.
