In the recent years,
numerous Spanish wineries have improved their production methods, using state-of-the-art equipment in order to offer a greater wine selection while remaining very competitive on the international market. One of the best examples is ABD&C Wines; A large winery seeking importers in many countries and which we recommend for the management philosophy and superior quality of their wines.

The activity as wine producers dates from 1886, when the old Bodega of Bosch-Guell was founded by Romulo Bosch I Alsina, Mayor of Barcelona, Deputy and Senator, as well as President of the Barcelona Port.

Today, the vineyards are comprised of six estates with a total of 600 Ha., a modern winery and cellar. Vinos Romulo Bosch offers a full line of traditional Spanish wines with the typical characteristics of the D.O. Vinos de la Tierra Valle del Cinca: Bright and fruity wines, using the varietals of Spain; Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Chardonnay.

IBN: Please, tell us how the bodega has evolved since its commencement.

Alex Bosch: My grandfather Romulo Bosch, owned a shipping company with ships travelling between Spain and Central / South America for the primary purpose of importing cotton. Being a savvy entrepreneur, he saw an opportunity to export barreled Spanish wines to new territories and expand his business, therefore, in 1886 he opened "Bodegas Bosch Güell for this purpose.

IBN:
When did you become involved with this company? What is the connection between ABD&C and Vinos Romulo Bosch?

Alex Bosch:In 1972, I started to work at Bodegas Bosch Güell, in the Barcelona headquarters, until 1982. The old bodega was closed in 1986 and we still hold the registered brands. In 2003, I founded ABD&C Wines.

My wife's family owns The Codorníu Group (Cava Producer since 1551) and Finca San Miguel, with more than 1.000 hectares in Huesca, Province of Aragon, where there are more than 350 Hectares of vineyards located in the D.O. Vinos de la Tierra Valle del Cinca (Cinca Valley).

San Miguel and Codorníu started the most recent cellar of the group in Nuviana, Spain. This is where the wines "Romulo Bosch"are produced for ABD&C Wines.

IBN: What is the mission statement of the company and what are your main objectives?

Alex Bosch: Our philosophy is to position Rómulo Bosch worldwide as a producer of great quality Spanish wines while maintaining enough capacity to supply our customers. We are expanding our export market and are seeking importers who would understand the opportunity to represent our historic brand.

Our objectives are to open and develop a minimum of two new markets per year, over a 5 year period, and create a network of importers and distributors in the USA, Canada, U.K., Holland, Germany and the emergent markets such as China, Korea, and Japan. Romulo Bosch wines are distributed in Spain and have recently been introduced in Sweden, France and Italy.

IBN: What is your annual production and current product portfolio?

Our production was approximately 8.000.000 liters in 2003. Part of this production has been reserved for coupages, blends, oak ageing, etc…

Our portfolio is composed of the following products:

Rómulo Bosch Tinto: This red wine is the result of the "coupage" of Merlot, Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Romulo Bosch Blanco: Fruity white wine 100% Chardonnay grape

Romulo Bosch Rosado: A shining Rosé wine, with an equilibrated blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.
Bi-Varietals Line: Composed of two wines with extra of personality, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Tempranillo
Rómulo Bosch Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot
Rómulo Bosch Tempranillo / Cabernet: Two full body red wines, matured and with character.

IBN: I am impressed by the superior quality of your wines. Would you explain the production process?

Alex Bosch: There are many different factors, but basically, because our winemakers work diligently at finding the excellence from the vine.

The Climatic Zone: III of Winkler, is very adequate for medium-high cycle grapes, with less of 300 ml. of rain per year. This factor allows us to control the optimal evolution of the grapes, which raises the quality of our wine.

The Terroir: Our vineyards have different varieties of terroir. This permits us to grow different type of grapes. In addition, the good topography facilitates the modern mechanization of the cultivation and recollection of the grapes.

Modern Technology: We use laser tech control for the plantations, satellite control for growing and maturation of the vines.

We utilize meteorological stations with long distance management via mobile phones; each vine is individual irrigated, with meticulous control of the grapes.

In addition, a carefully process of coupages, ageing in oak barrels and the final bottling process takes place in our modern facility.

ABD&C Wines are winner
of numerous awards

IBN: How do you stack-up when put up against the competition?

Alex Bosch: In front of the competition, we focus on:
- The quality of our wines while maintaining our production capacity
- Accuracy in delivery time to all of our distributors, consequently to the point of sale and the end consumer.
- The price/quality ratio, presentation, and variety of products will also help us in the future.

In addition to the brand Rómulo Bosch, we also distribute the brands Viña Igorja, Pagos de Igorja and Les Èves, which will be introduced to the market in the near future.

IBN: Where are you currently seeking importers?

Alex Bosch: We are open for negotiation in any territories where we are not present yet. We are principally targeting USA, Canada, U.K., Holland, Germany and the emergent markets such as China, Korea, Japan.

IBN: Based on our worldwide survey, distributors and other buyers see the Internet as a fantastic tool to get information on suppliers but would not place any orders online for reasons we can easily imagine. Has the Internet been a contributing factor to your business?

Alex Bosch: Yes, it is an unquestionable fact that the Internet is the best tool to work and establish relationships at a distance. Our future plan is to develop a Sales System through the web for our importers and distributors.

IBN: What else should we know about Bodega Romulo Bosch and ABD&C Wines?

Alex Bosch: Working in alliance with the Cordoniu Group, ABD&C Wines is a dynamic company that is well prepared to expand its wine distribution network. We welcome inquiries from importers worldwide.
