The “Wild Geese” was the name given to the Irish who served in various European armies during the 17th century and in particular the 18th century.
William of Orange’s war in Ireland ended with the signing of the Treaty of Limerick in 1691. The terms of this treaty allowed the Jacobite Officers who did not wish to serve under William the Usurper to flee to France in order to fight for the deposed James II. Around 1692, 30,000 Irishmen left their country and everything it represented.
With the help of the French nobility, they chose to follow their legitimate sovereign into exile. It was this unwavering loyalty and devotion to the European monarchs that led to their being called “na Geanna Fiaine” or “the Wild Geese”. They proved their devotion on many occasions throughout history and achieved fame and honor far beyond the name

TASTING NOTES
|
The Wild Geese Rare Irish Whiskey , already the recipient of five industry awards, has a clean fresh nose of citrus and floral notes with a rich malty aroma and a slightly peppery overtone.
The taste has a silky smooth mouth-feel at the start, a warm malt flavour developing with a slight mouth- watering effect. The deep rich malt taste with suggestions of citrus and oak and a little bite from the grain gives a well rounded full bodied whiskey, and results in a finish that is long, sustained and loyal to the taste.

| " The new packaging for Wild Geese Rare Irish Whiskey impressed us with its satisfyingly heavy cube-shaped decanter and more contemporary label. It's a big improvement on the previous packaging and testament to the creative flair of the in-house design team at Protégé International, the brand's marketing consultant. Wild Geese's inspiration — the famous flight of Irish noblemen and soldiers from English rule in Ireland in the seventeenth century — has been highlighted by a new 1691 medallion on the bottle. The year commemorates the year the nobles fled." |
(Felicity Murray, Editor Drinks International : Best Re-packaging of an Existing Alcoholic Drinks Brand Winner : Wild Geese Rare Irish Whiskey November 2007) |
