UK Duty Stamps Scheme and the EU

HM Revenue & Customs are the authority within the UK responsible for collecting excise duty on alcohol.

What is the UK Duty Stamps Scheme?
This year the UK Government is introducing the new UK Duty Stamps scheme to help tackle spirits duty fraud. The duty stamp will show that duty has either been paid or is due to be paid on the contents of the bottle to which it is attached. From 1 October 2006 all spirits, wine and made wine with a strength of 30% ABV or above and with a capacity of 35cl or more, must display a duty stamp before they are released onto the UK market.

How are you affected?
If you supply spirits for sale on the UK market, you need to be aware that certain products have to be stamped. You will need to register if you wish to obtain stamps.
